From Idea to Platform: Highlights from Our Event at DIALOG

On March 18th, 2025, the Toronto BioBuild Collective partnered with DIALOG and the Toronto Circularity Network to host an engaging event exploring the future of sustainable construction. The evening featured two compelling presentations that bridged global frameworks with local action.

Stefanie Weavers introduced the International Building Exhibition (IBA) and the Digital Circular Construction Hub, sharing insights into how cities and regions can reimagine their building practices through circular design, stakeholder collaboration, and innovation. Her presentation offered an inspiring look at urban transformation, with examples from Stuttgart and global pilot projects tackling housing, mobility, and climate.

Craig Applegath followed with a dynamic talk on the intersection of biology, architecture, and climate adaptation. From modular mass timber strategies to ecological material sourcing, Craig challenged us to design for resilience, disassembly, and long-term carbon storage — all while showcasing recent design research and case studies.

This event sparked meaningful connections and conversations among architects, researchers, students, and industry professionals. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Stay tuned for future events and follow us as we continue shaping a more circular, low-carbon built environment.
