The Toronto BioBuild Collective is excited to present its first mock-up exhibition at Toronto Metropolitan University, bringing together architects, students, researchers, volunteers, and industry collaborators around the future of low-carbon construction.
Developed through the TBC Mock-Up Project, the exhibition features six wall assembly mock-ups created by participating architecture firms. Each assembly explores how bio-based, low-carbon, circular, and more locally responsive material systems can be applied to real building contexts.
This exhibition is both a presentation of built work and a record of a collaborative learning process. Over the past year, firms, volunteers, students, researchers, suppliers, and organizers have worked together to test ideas, source materials, develop drawings, build prototypes, and open up conversations around how buildings are made.
About the Exhibition
The exhibition invites visitors to engage with material assemblies at full scale and to consider the decisions behind each wall system, from project type and design intent to material sourcing, constructability, carbon impact, moisture performance, and future reuse.
Rather than treating sustainability as a single product or solution, the exhibition highlights the complexity of material choices in practice. It asks how designers can work with emerging materials today while also imagining better systems for the future.
What to Expect
Visitors will be able to explore:
Six full-scale wall assembly mock-ups by participating firms
